Shortly after giving my life to Christ I attended a university which was not kind to the Bible. Their religious classes taught the Bible was full of myth and error, its stories to be peeled back like an onion to get to the truth. Those holding onto a belief the Bible as God’s Word were ridiculed and viewed as severely flawed.

But I had a godly pastor, Reverend Creppon, who gave me some sage advice. “Fritz”, he told me one particularly difficult day, “hold onto the Bible, it will always get you out of any trouble it gets you into!”

I never forgot that or him and the Bible has always has done just what he said.

The Reader’s Digest magazine has a venerable reputation for condensing long novels and literary works.

Someone said the Reader’s Digest even condensed the Bible into four (4) sentences:

  1. He came.
  2. He went.
  3. He’s coming back.
  4. And He won’t be very happy when he gets here.

It is used as the authority for pop psychology or to undergird a personal philosophy of life. it is dissected, divided, and dispensationalized to fit our way of thinking. I sometimes wonder if God would even recognize His Book the way it is presented in some of our churches.
