I am often amused how the Bible has a sanitized way of conveying simple truth.

To an agricultural society, very familiar with the chore of mucking out the barn, it communicates that to make money or conduct business one must put up with a lot of unpleasant things we wish we didn’t have to deal with — no use complaining, it’s just part of the job.

Business Sense

He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread. – Proverbs 12:9

Proverbs are short cryptic sayings that have great truth.

Here the bible is saying that you can’t run a business or conduct your life according to public opinion. Make decisions based on God’s word, godly counsel, and opportunity — and let people appreciate your actions as they may.
