“For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. — 1st Peter 2:25

We all have our list of “Don’t Wants” — things we don’t want out of life, things we are afraid of happening and try to avoid.

Sometimes we’re more motivated by our “Don’t Wants” than by our wants and that has to change.

Giving our lives and future to Christ means we not only allow him to align our wants to his will but our “Don’t Wants”, too.

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. – Isaiah 30:21

I’m reading an interesting book by a self-proclaimed jewish agnostic who decided to live what the Bible commands, as literally as possible, for one year.

I was reluctant, having seen plenty of hack jobs from those with a bone to pick, but so far this author is different. I find his secular yet very honest perspective interesting.

His major problem by Day 13? – I’ll let you read his own words:

“The problem is, a lot of religion is about surrendering control and being open to radical change. I wish I could stow my secular worldview in a locker at the Port Authority Bus Terminal and retrieve it at the end of this year” – A. J.Jacobs, The Year of Living Biblically, pg 36

[T]wo men, … did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied … Joshua son of Nun … said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!” … But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!” – Numbers 11:25-29

God told Moses to choose 70 elders to help share the load, and they were instructed to gather but two didn’t. Whether or not they were part of the 70 is unclear.

What is clear is Joshua didn’t like it – they weren’t following the program and doing what they were told! This was uncontrolled by leadership and Joshua wanted it stopped!

Wise Moses called it for what it was, jealousy. He knew being the head guy didn’t mean he was in control and told Joshua he actually longed for the day everyone would have the Holy Spirit and prophesy!

That day has come!  All followers of Christ can now have the Holy Spirit and can all prophesy (1st Corinthians 14:31).  A wise leader will encourage all to go for God whether they follow instructions or not.

Sound Bite: God is not limited to my rules and my leadership.  He’s in charge here and it’s wonderful!
