Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. — Matthew 13:44

No one finds buried treasure without looking, AND looking in the right place.

The yearning for more in life is God’s gift and finding Christ is God’s answer.

King Herod … had James, the brother of John, put to death by the sword. – Acts 12:1b-2a

James was one of the three (Peter, James, John) disciples in Jesus’ inner circle, but shortly after the work began he was eliminated, having made little known impact. The Letter of James in the Bible is thought to be from Jesus’ brother, not John’s

Jesus had to know this ahead of time, so why invest the time in the disciple James?

I think this points to the fact there is a bigger picture to our purpose than what we can accomplish in this life. We have eternity to serve Christ.

Jesus said to them, You can be sure that when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne in the New Age, then you twelve followers of mine will also sit on thrones, to rule the twelve tribes of Israel. – Matthew 19:28

They had a bigger purpose, and so do we.

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? … we shall judge angels” – 1st Corinthians 6:2-3

Prayer:Thank you, Jesus, for showing me my purpose is more than what I can accomplish for you here. Help me to live with the bigger picture in mind.

Sound Bite: I have a bigger purpose than right here right now.

“And Jacob noticed that Laban’s attitude toward him was not what it had been. Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.” – Genesis31-2-3

It’s easy to hear God say what you want to hear – but easy is not always wrong.

Jacob, keeping his father-in-law’s sheep, noticed a strain in their relationship and he longed for home. God often works in these circumstances, like a mother eagle pulling feathers out of her nest so the little chicks become uncomfortable and want to fly.

So how does one know if the time is right for a change?

Two indicators:

  1. If the change requires manipulation of people or systems or a compromise of principles, be cautious. Most things I had to finagle ultimately turned out to be mistakes.
  2. If an opportunity is accompanied by an inner peace and a sense of excitement, God is probably involved.

If your circumstances become difficult, God opens the door, and you have peace about walking through,  take the step and don’t even look back.
