A Scripture for Bikers

Honda CH250

It is always good to memorize scripture, and here is a good one:

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. — Jude 1:24-25

Unexpected Whispers

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit … but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind … an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake … a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out”. 1st Kings 19:11-13

God speaks in many ways. We want the dramatic and God can do that, the Psalmist says God’s voice breaks trees and move mountains (Psalm 29), but more often than not he speaks in quiet whispers — a child, a parent, a friend uniquely placed.

Listen for him there, too, and be teachable.

[Y]our Father knows what you need before you ask Him. — Jesus (Matthew 6:8b)

Philip Yancey has some insight about why God wants us to pray when he already knows it all.

“We do not pray to tell God what he does not know, nor to remind him of things he has forgotten. He already cares for the things we pray about…. He has simply been waiting for us to care about them with him” – Philip Yancey, Prayer pg. 60
