O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. – Psalm 71:17-18

Discovering many strong desires turn out not so desirable, finding when all is said and done more is said than done, a new pain here, a lack of energy there, and there’s a tendency to sit out, turn inward, lose interest.

Even Solomon, wisest man ever, said in his later years,

Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.(Eccl 4:13).

But King David discovered a task and a cause that kept him going even through old age — showing God’s strength to the next generation.

Turning attention from our puny little goals to God’s plan provides an unending source of drive and energy!

As a young man I met an elderly couple (at the time I thought they were elderly but not so much now ) who inspired me. They were passing through to the mission field at age 60 — they had discovered the fountain of life, Jesus, and purposed to re-fire instead of retire.

Sound bite: Re-Fire instead of Re-Tire
Prayer: “Father, yours is a Lifetime calling — enjoying you, showing your strength and power. Thank you for that wonderful calling and grace to live it! Amen!”

Business Sense

He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread. – Proverbs 12:9

Proverbs are short cryptic sayings that have great truth.

Here the bible is saying that you can’t run a business or conduct your life according to public opinion. Make decisions based on God’s word, godly counsel, and opportunity — and let people appreciate your actions as they may.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” – Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20)

I became aware of an important fact while riding the ZipLine at Camp Tejas.

Even with the helmet, the harness, the tether, the decision, and the knowledge that everything would be ok that first step was the hardest and though I really wanted to do it, the longer I stood there on the edge the harder it became. It is that way with any big decision – from the initial decision to give my life to Christ, to commit to one woman for life, entering the ministry, going to a job interview, or making a stand for what is right in the face of opposition, the biggest problem is not the decision or the desire but that first step.

Prayer: Father, help me to hear, to decide, AND to take that first step. Amen!
Sound Bite: The biggest problem is that first step, it’s all down hill from there.
