God … hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, … who … sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” — Hebrews 1:1-3

God has always been pure spirit (John 4:24) and though we may not realize it, today, before Jesus the idea a human could sit on God’s throne was just not thinkable.

Prophets looking into heaven were amazed at what they saw,

And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. — Ezekiel 1:26

No one at the time thought it could be literal yet when Jesus purged our sin he bodily came out of the tomb, bodily ascended to heaven, and bodily sits on God’s throne next to Majesty.

What’s he doing there? Lots!

The Bible says he is praying for God’s mercy and grace on this dying world. It’s been noticed the wrath of God seldom falls like it did before Christ. That’s possibly because Jesus is there praying for mercy and grace — always referring to his sacrifice on the cross.

“He’s there from now to eternity to save everyone who comes to God through him, always on the job to speak up for them.” — Hebrews 4:25 (Message)

He’s preparing a place to receive us, his followers,

“I’m on my way to get a room ready for you. And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live.” — John 14:3-4 (Message)

He’s preparing us for his new world government.

“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” — Revelation 11:15

We are his now and have his ear, the ear of God. What a privilidge.

“All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.” — Proverbs 15:15

Secular thinkers have discovered an important fact known by the sages long ago — Happiness is found before not after “success”.

“The formula is clear: Work harder, then you’ll be successful, then you’ll be happier. When I asked some of my Harvard students, their answer was easy: “I’m working … now so I can be happy when … [fill in the blank with a six figure banking job, make a scientific breakthrough, get into medical school, etc.].”

But here’s what these brilliant students often forget: Getting into Harvard was supposed to make them happy….

It’s hard to find happiness after success if the goalposts of success keep changing.

Now for the good news … If you reverse the order of the formula, you end up with greater happiness and greater success rates … If you cultivate happiness while in the midst of your struggles, work, at school, while unemployed or single, you increase your chances of attaining all the goals you are pursuing, including happiness.” — Shawn Achor in “5 Ways to Turn Happiness Into an Advantage (Read Shawn’s full article “here.)

Christ provides what we really need to be happy — complete acceptance, an enduring purpose, and bright future.

“[W]e know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose … What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” — Romans 8:28,31b / Psalm 118:6

Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai … And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him … Send two or three thousand men to take it and do not weary the whole army, for only a few people live there.” – Joshua 7:2-3

Fresh from a great victory over Jericho, where the walls fell flat at their shouts, Israel decided life would be a piece of cake, but they were surprised and dismayed when the little town ate their lunch.

They failed because instead of asking God how to proceed they thought they could handle it themselves, unaware of circumstances within their camp that prevented success.

There are so many things we, too, simply do not see or perceive. It is always best to ask God’s guidance on every task. Proverbs puts it this way,

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!” – Proverbs 3:6 (Message Bible)
