Thirsting

“my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is”

Psalm 63:1 KJV

There are many Old Testament scriptures about “thirsting” for God but surprisingly few in the New.

There were things Old Testament saints didn’t have; the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, for one. Before Christ, the Holy Spirit was with certain classes of people, designated as prophets, but with Pentecost, that restriction is no longer valid.

“whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”-Jesus (John 4:14 KJV)

Jesus, talking to a Samaritan woman at the local well, told her if she would only ask, he would give her water causing her to NEVER thirst again, using thirst as a metaphor to represent a longing deep in the soul.

We who are in Christ sometimes forget Jesus put that same well in us, where we, too, can draw at any time. We don’t have to wait, and plead, and search; it’s right there with us. Is it clogged? Ask Jesus to show how to open it and let it flow. Choose to believe what he said, thank him for it, and act like it until it begins to bubble.

“For the kingdom of God is … righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.  For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.”

Romans 14:17-18

This was written to a diverse group of believers in an international city, Rome, blending many ideas and cultures.

Some were vegetarians and others were carnivores, some revered special days (the Jewish culture had many holidays with fasting and feasting, totally lost on those not Jewish) others disregarding.  Paul indicates these are not what’s important in God’s kingdom.

There are three important things in God’s Kingdom: 1) Righteousness; 2) Peace; and 3) Joy from the Holy Spirit – here is where the focus should be.

We should allow each other to enjoy Jesus!

If your faith is not allowing you to live at peace with God and have Joy in your heart, something is wrong. Be fully convinced in what you think is “right” while allowing others to be “wrong”, in your opinion.  Encourage even the “wrong” ones to love Jesus and serve him with joy and peace. Don’t be shaken by what someone else thinks of how you serve Jesus.

Prayer: “Jesus, for this new week, help me to find a way to enjoy you in what I do, to live in the peace of Christ, and act right, allowing others to do the same.

Our Throwback, this week, is from April 2nd, 2010; The purpose for “lost” causes

If some things will never change, why do anything about them; they are lost causes, why not cut our losses and move on? But God doesn’t cut his losses and move on, “lost causes” have their purpose.
