As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field. — Psalm 103:15-18

Ingrained in us is the desire to build/accomplish something permanent — isn’t going to happen! Life is not designed that way.

Only God and his purposes endure.

John the baptizer, in the Bible, uses an additional metaphor:

He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly …

He must increase, but I must decrease.” — John 3:29-30

The Best Man at a wedding knows the wedding is not about him and he’s happy with that.

As youth fades don’t be sad at the decrease, recognize your purpose and put the focus on the one whom life is, really, all about — our time comes later (Rev 19:9). Next time something you do, even with the best intentions, fails to produce results you want, offer those efforts, desires, and results as a sacrifice to Christ.

Finding Myself

A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. – Proverbs 18:2

“I just want to find myself!”, some people say.

Well, here are some instructions:

  1. Stretch out both hands
  2. Draw them toward’s you until you touch something
  3. There you are!
  4. Now, turn your attention to finding God. That will be more productive.

When my child was little we went for a walk one day in an unfamiliar place. I asked, “Son, do you know where we are?” “Yep!” he said confidently, “I’m right here and you’re right there!”

Actually, that’s all he really needed to know!

Prayer: Jesus, I know where I am — I’m right here and you’re right there with me. Amen!

Fluff

I am enjoying today’s gadgets — an electronic Bible to hold as many versions as I want, including all my study notes, commentaries, with large enough print to read yet small enough to fit in my hand; a pen that can save every stroke (no more writing on Twinkie wrappers or paper napkins); a world-wide soap box (Blog).

Yet, it’s all fluff! I, really, don’t need any of it! Yes, some things are easier but am I more productive? Does it help me be a better person or make better choices?

What we really need comes from God. The apostle Peter writes:

“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.” – 2nd Peter 1:3 (Living Bible)

The great heroes of faith throughout the world did, and do, so much more with so much less.
