Is God Egotistical?

I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. – Isaiah 42:8

We don’t like people who consider themselves, usually at our expense, supremely important. Yet God considers himself the most important person in the universe for all time. Is God egotistical? It would be incorrect to think so.

John Piper (1946 – ), Reformed Pastor and Theologian, addresses it this way,

God would be unrighteous (just as we would) if He valued anything more than what is supremely valuable. But He Himself is supremely valuable. If He did not take infinite delight in the worth of His own glory, He would be unrighteous” – Desiring God, pg 42-43

We don’t like those of our rank who consider themselves supremely important because they are not, but God is.

He calls us to value him highest because as we do we place life’s anchor on someone who will not give way. His glory is not at our expense but for our benefit.

Prayer: You, Father, are supremely valuable and it is right for all creation to give you, alone, praise and worship! Amen!

Sound Bite: It is right to give God thanks and praise!.

And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto [Moses’ birth mother], Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it. – Exodus 2:9

Moses mother was paid to nurse her own child while others were loosing theirs and living in poverty.

Even in the worst environments, the most unjust laws, and in spite of evil intents of wicked people God offers divine exceptions by faith so that we not only survive but thrive.

Prayer: Help me, Father, to not be afraid or give up hope but to look for your divine exceptions and trust your care. Amen.

Sound Bite:I shall, by God’s Grace, live and thrive in the 20 of the 80/20 rule

Lap time

[T]he LORD came down in a pillar of cloud … and summoned Aaron and Miriam …. he said, “Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; … With him I speak face to face…” – Numbers 12:5b-8a (NIV)

Clearly, God had a different relationship with Moses than with the “prophets” of that day. We see that difference also in the lives of Noah, Enoch, Abraham, Moses, Daniel, even Job — throughout history God chooses with whom to have a closer relationship.

We, too, can have that closer walk – paid for by Christ and brought to us by the Holy Spirit!

[T]he Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ – Romans 8:15b-17a

Dreams and visions are great but why settle for anything less than lap time?
