Many find it inconceivable that God, who knows everything, who runs the universe, who is eternal and perfect would listen to prayer from such puny finite creatures as us.

But think of it this way…where did humility, itself, come from?

It is inconceivable to think that the creator of humility would not, himself, be the most humble of all — humble enough to put on humanity, die for our sins, listen to our prayers.

Not Very Clever

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” – Acts 4:13

Christ’s followers have often been considered “uneducated” and “ignorant”.    It is not usually true, but so what if it were?

God doesn’t glorify ignorance but neither is he impressed with how many letters are after our names.  We are all the same size to Him – we, too, should take that view.

The apostle Paul, a great learned man, made a conscious effort to not appear “clever” but to present a simple message – Jesus and his gift.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.  – 1st Corinthians 2:2″

>The Humblest Man

>

[T]here came one running, and kneeled to [Jesus], and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. – Mark 10:17b-18

The story is told of the town wanting to honor its humblest citizen.

They found just the man and presented him with a trophy, but they had to immediately take it away from him because he accepted it.

Jesus was not even guilty of the sin of self-righteousness.
