Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. – Jeremian 31:13
I know just enough about dancing with a partner to recognize it is an autonomous voluntary participation between two people, each receiving something from it and having a desire to keep it going. When done correctly it has just the right mix of both expectation and surprise to keep it interesting.
It’s a good life metaphor. Businesses and customers do a “dance” — one moves the other responds — as often said, “it takes two to tango!” In this arena the “dance” is usually short-term with a lot of stepping on toes.
It is beautiful to see two partners experienced with each other enough to make it flow gracefully. Marriage is to be like that — a long-term dance — he moves she responds, she moves he responds with just the right mix of both expectation and surprise to keep it interesting.
God comes to “dance!” He extends his hand and if engaged he moves we respond, we move he responds — an eternal dance with just the right mix of both expectation and surprise to keep it interesting.
Question: Have you thought of being in a “dance” with God?
